Don't Let Your Signs Go to Waste!
Campaign signs are an effective way for political candidates
to get their names in front of voters, but once the election is over,
where should these signs go?
The materials they're comprised of aren't recyclable in the Solid Waste Authority of Palm Beach County's dual-stream county-wide recycling program. While Resource Depot continues to accept limited quantities of these campaign materials for reuse, there is so much more that just gets tossed. This campaign season we're encouraging the recycling of these signs through a newly-launched public-private partnership.
Resource Depot, the Solid Waste Authority of Palm Beach County and Cemex have partnered together to collect and recycle Palm Beach County campaign signs. Campaigns are encouraged to bring their campaign signs to one of seven Solid Waste Authority Home Chemical & Recycling Centers strategically located throughout the county.
Collection will take place from August 24 - November 22, 2024

Following collection, the signs will be packed and transported with the help of Cemex to a NuCycle facility in Plant City, Florida which recycles the material into alternative enviro-fuel cubes used as a cleaner alternative for coal.
While we hope to divert thousands of pounds of materials through recycling and reuse, we must ask the ENF. question - how do we avoid all this waste in the first place? We need to REthink!
-
Before tossing your political yard signs, consider reusing signs for future campaigns. It is an eco-friendly option that saves both resources and costs for candidates and organizations.
-
If you're involved in campaign planning, consider creating signs that are easy to reuse. Keep designs simple by skipping dates and years, and stick to consistent colors and logos.
-
Consider other means to promote your campaign that reduce waste while maintaining a strong connection with your audience. Leverage digital platforms like social media and email campaigns, engaging directly with voters through events and grassroots efforts, and collaborating with local businesses for visibility.
